Twitter spam: the beginning of the end?
I’ve just received my first real spam tweet. As soon as I received it, thoughts of the days of ICQ and Skype spam started rushing to the forefront of my mind. It’s easy for spam to ruin a good online service if the right strategies aren’t put in place to fight it.
So how is Twitter going to fight it?
- There is already a “Report for spam” link. Traditionally reporting a post on forums might mean contacting a moderator.
But does it work this way with Twitter, or is it powered socially (by the number of people that report a given user)? - There are limits on the number of API calls that can be made from external applications. This prevents bots from mass-posting.
Is this enough to mitigate spam?
