Our plans to go to Lombok and the Gilis were shattered due to the earthquakes on Lombok. We needed to regroup so we decided to go Canggu.
It was familiar to be back on Bali and Canggu has some amazing rice fields going on between all the tourist shops.

I tried my hand at surfing (for the first time ever, which seems wrong considering I’m Australian).
An unexpected yet very welcome coincidence happened in Canggu: an old friend, Salim, whom I met on my previous trip in Laos, was a neighbourhood away in Kerobokan. A celebration was in order!
It was also the last chance to be reunited with Dave before he left Indonesia. Strangely enough, we bumped into him on the beach! Later on we caught up for a delicious vegan snack for our last chance to say goodbye.
The other main highlight was the cat we befriended — or you could say, adopted — who came by our room every day and wouldn’t leave. He looked hungry so we ensured there was a health stockpile of cat food for him not to eat.
Back in Ubud & meeting my mum
Since we were meeting my mum in Ubud, we decided to head back there to relax a bit until she arrived. We managed to find a very tranquil place with beautiful traditional Balinese doors and a swimming pool.
They decided to put us right next to some construction works, however. So that wouldn’t do. We moved to an equally nice place on the main street (Ubud Bungalows).
Soon enough, mum was with us! It was great to see her again and we had some mother/son time together visiting Tegenungan waterfall, one of the places we didn’t see the first time round.
After that, there was a quick rehash of the Ubud culture (rice fields and a fire dance) then the usual eating and drinking… before we figured out where to go next: to see the beautiful white sandy beaches of Nusa Dua.

Stayed tuned for: Nusa Dua.
